The Participation Award Education Program is aimed at educating the public on the value of recognizing children for their participation in organized activities such as sports, academics, and the arts. This program provides information for coaches, league organizers and administrators, and parents to help them create meaningful and memorable recognition programs.
Over 30 million children are participate in organized youth sports programs nationwide and the evidence supporting involvement for young people is overwhelming. Participation in sports program is proven to reduce racism, improve low self-image, and decrease the high school dropout rate. And involvement in sports helps builds teamwork, strong work ethic, responsibility, sportsmanship, and respect.
While it’s important to acknowledge talent and strengths, it’s also important to value other attributes such as dedication, sportsmanship, improvement, team spirit, and effort. And Americans agree with 65% stating children should be recognized for participation on sports teams.
