The E! People’s Choice Awards trophy undergoes a redesign. Previously a more traditionallooking art glass piece, the new design is meant to honor the E! logo—and it’s trademark exclamation point!—and offer a more abstract, sculptural take on trophies.

1975
The first year the People’s Choice Awards were held. The awards originally were created by producer Bob Stivers and later were sold to Procter & Gamble Productions and later the E! network.
2005
Previously determined by Gallup polls, 2005 was the first year that the awards were determined with an online survey. Because polls of this type often have a margin of error, there have been ties in several different categories throughout the show’s history.
TOP BRASS
Although they glitter like gold, the top and bottom cylinders that make up the bulk of the trophy actually are plated in brass. The center circle is in a matte finish to set off the striking color and shine of the rest of the piece.
JILL OF MANY TRADES
London-born and New York-based designer Anna Karlin, who designed the updated trophy, doesn’t just work in awards; her studio also offers furniture and fine objects, jewelry, and interiors and art direction.
CATEGORY COUNT
In 1975, the awarded trophies in only 14 categories. Since then, the categories have changed many times with shifts in popular culture, and as of 2016, the People’s Choice Awards had 74 categories.
